Marco created nine of his own compositions that drove many of the scene transitions, emotions, and subtle foreshadowing in order to help the audience better understand the younger characters' feministic perspectives, isolated environment, time period, and double life of their teacher, Mr. Smith.
In an excerpt on pages 28-29 from Qui Nguyen's She Kills Monsters, Agnes (main character) and her eccentric, mythical crew walk through an ominous enchanted forest when they come across a small, intimidating fairy (Farrah) who is a guardian of a boss known as Tiamat. After a tense back and forth dialogue and battle, with one heroic character getting slain by the fairy, the crew would defeat Farrah barely unscathed.
The tone for the beginning of this excerpt is somewhat pretty, yet very off-putting as the crew are looking around in this lush, enchanted forest, not knowing the dangers or challenges that would lie ahead of them.
As a minor character, Steve's few second appearance is seen as an initial sign of hope, relief, and heroic confidence of defeating Farrah, only for her to unfortunately kill him in one fell swoop.
The crew see's this battle of them against Farrah as the fight for their lives, as they are slowly defeated one by one, only for Farrah to be the last creature standing before Agnes and her sister Tilly defeated her with a magic missile.
